Somers Murphy & Earl Business Advisory Services

In this section of the website, we introduce you to one of our firms. Up next is Somers Murphy & Earl Business Advisory Services, run by Managing Director Brian Murphy and his team. Read his answers to get to know him and the firm.

What do you like about working for your firm?

“Not knowing what client challenges are going to arise daily. I really enjoy helping clients solving their business and operational problems.”

What are in your words the strengths of your firm?

“We are a small team that always puts the needs of our clients first. We try to bring practical solutions, gained over many years, to the table. Too often, firms can say there are multiple solutions to a particular problem but never recommend, in our opinion, what is the most practical way to proceed.”

“Never assume you know what the client is thinking or what the real problem is.”

What is the most valuable lesson you have learned at your firm?

“Never assume you know what the client is thinking or what the real problem is. So always remember we have two ears and one mouth.”

What is the most rewarding experience you have had at your firm so far?

“It is always the client saying thank you, and it is a pleasure to work with you. They appreciate our guidance, insight and handholding.”

What result you achieved for a client are you most proud of?

“Having been in business for an extended number of years, there is no single moment. It is really getting a result for a client, be that fundraising, restructuring, tax refunds or personal advice. It is also about just being there for them.”

“Practical experience combined with a detailed knowledge of the business landscape which can be applied to the benefit of our clients and prospects.”

What is your favourite statement that you regularly use when advising your clients?

“Let me see if I can help you.”

Which conditions do you think a ‘firm of the future’ should meet?

“I am not sure if it is a set of conditions per se. It is more the combination of practical experience combined with a detailed knowledge of the business landscape which can be applied to the benefit of our clients and prospects.”

How do you see the future of your firm from your perspective?

“We have an excellent portfolio of clients built up over many years. In many cases, we have become trusted business advisors rather than accountants. I would like to see this continue to evolve into the future and add additional skillsets and capabilities along the way.”
