Fooks & Co

In this section of the website, we introduce you to one of our firms. Up next is Fooks & Co, run by Director Dave Collins and his team. Read his answers to get to know him and the firm.

What do you like about working for your firm?

“The opportunity to work with a great team and great clients. Encouraging and enabling team members, including myself to improve their professional knowledge and skills. Helping clients not only to comply with their legal requirements for HMRC and Companies House but to help them develop and make their businesses even better.”

What are in your words the strengths of your firm?

“Fooks & Co is a long-established firm celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2021 with a wealth of knowledge and experience enabling us to offer a wide range of services to our clients, ranging from compliance work to special project work for our wide range of clients.”

“Once you believe that there is nothing new to learn, then it is time to retire.”

Dave Collins, Director

What is the most valuable lesson you have learned at your firm?

“The most valuable lesson I have learned in over forty years in practice is that you never know it all and can always improve your knowledge and abilities to help. Once you believe that there is nothing new to learn, then it is time to retire.”

What is the most rewarding experience you have had at your firm so far?

“The most rewarding experience has been watching team members with little or no technical knowledge and little self-esteem blossom into self-confident, competent people who carry out their work efficiently and with enjoyment, and who are eager to constantly improve their abilities and to pass on their knowledge to others, whether clients or colleagues.”

What result you achieved for a client are you most proud of?

“The proudest achievement for a client is seeing the son of a long-standing client who had an idea for a business but little practical experience to fulfil his dreams. Following coaching and mentoring, he now owns a successful multi-million-pound turnover business, has diversified and expanded into other areas of the business to such an extent that he is now considering retirement at the age of 40.”

“Fooks & Co is set for its next 125 years of helping clients make their businesses even better.“

Dave Collins, Director

What is your favourite statement that you regularly use when advising your clients?

“Well done, you’ve had a great year, now what can be done to make next year even better?”

Which conditions do you think a ‘firm of the future’ should meet?

“The firm of the future should combine traditional skills with the use of cutting edge technology to ensure efficiency and constant improvement. Team members should be trained to the highest level to ensure that they can achieve and exceed their perceived ambitions.”

How do you see the future of your firm from your perspective?

“The future of Fooks and Co is bright. After more than 40 years in practice, my career is approaching its latter years, though I’m not ready to go yet! However, through succession planning and team development, Fooks & Co is set for its next 125 years of helping clients make their businesses even better.”
