In this section of the website, we introduce you to one of our firms. Up next is Egan Roberts run by Director Keith Roberts and his team. Read his answers to our questions to get to know him and the firm.

What do you like about working for your firm?

“I enjoy working in a relaxed rural location, close to home with an inspiring view from my office over the local countryside. The nature of our practice client base being small and medium sized businesses affords plenty of opportunities to add value to clients looking to develop their business.”

“I enjoy providing opportunities for the rest of the team to develop their skills, in a secure and relaxed atmosphere, where they can deliver a top class service to our clients.”

What are in your words the strengths of your firm?

“We have always been responsive to changes in clients needs, for example making clients ready for Making Tax Digital and setting up clients on Xero and at the same time becoming Xero Platinum Partner and in addition always being available to act as a sounding board for clients with proactive sound business advice.”

“We have a superb team, who are well-trained and great communicators with clients, always looking after their interests and needs.”

Keith Roberts, Director of Egan Roberts.

What is the most valuable lesson you have learned at your firm?

“The most valuable lesson to learn, working for a local practice, is client care. We all like to win the big fee assignments and these are important, but mostly the work and advice we give is basic, sound, and common-sense financial advice. All clients, irrespective of size, like to feel that they are significant to the firm. This means, more than anything, returning telephone calls, answering emails in a timely and careful manner.”

What is the best or most rewarding experience you have had at your firm so far?

“I have no particular incident or experience. I think the most satisfying element has been running the practice and watching the practice grow and develop in terms of size of client base, services we offer and coping with the changes to working practices. I have also taken pride in the number of students who we have recruited over the years from school who have gone on to qualify.”

What is your favourite statement that you regularly use when advising your clients?

“You need to grow some wool on your back.”

Keith Roberts, Director of Egan Roberts.

What result you achieved for a client, are you most proud of?

“I am particularly proud of efforts with regard to handling tax investigations for clients. One, in particular, was a large scale inquiry involving many months of work, which resulted in a very satisfactory outcome for the client who was expecting a hefty tax bill.”

How do you see the future of your firm from your perspective?

“The Firm will continue to develop the client base to small and medium-sized business offering the ideal accounting service probably via the cloud, to new and growing businesses. The firm will draw on the specialist skills within the Xeinadin Group to enhance the services offered especially to the larger clients. The number of audits is diminishing, but I still see the firm continuing with audit work and developing the skillset within the firm.”
