In this section of the website, we introduce you to one of our firms. Up next is THPCA, run by Managing Director David Houston and his team. Read his answers to get to know him and the firm.

What do you like about working for your firm?

“We are like an extended family. My brother is my business partner, and three of our staff have worked together in various other ventures over several years. Our combined experiences in our own businesses make us ideally placed to help or clients in their own adventures.”

What are in your words the strengths of your firm?

“We very much focus on our personality and the fact that our clients do not fear us, but in general (we believe) look forward to a visit to our offices for a coffee, a chat about the football or last night’s telly, and most importantly, for serious professional input into all aspects of their business performance and results.”

“Reach for the sky, if you only reach for the ceiling you may not get off the ground.”

What is the most valuable lesson you have learned at your firm?

“We never take anything for granted or rest on our laurels. We live in a volatile time business-wise, and we have seen many unexpected situations arising in our client base, both positive and negative, where our expertise has been called upon at short notice, and suddenly it is all hands on deck.”

What is the most rewarding experience you have had at your firm so far?

“Seeing the firm grow from more or less a standing start to where it is today. Working with such loyal colleagues and clients means that going to work is not something to be dreaded or feared, but is something to look forward to.”

What result you achieved for a client are you most proud of?

“There are many such achievements, from raising finance for clients where they have been turned away by high street lenders, to fully replacing antiquated accounting systems with fully cloud-based state-of-the-art technology and seeing the joy of dyed in the wool bookkeepers when they realise the time that the automation saves them.”

“We never take anything for granted or rest on our laurels.”

What is your favourite statement that you regularly use when advising your clients?

“Reach for the sky, if you only reach for the ceiling you may not get off the ground.”

Which conditions do you think a ‘firm of the future’ should meet?

“The firm of the future needs to think outside the box and be aware that the days of accountants being the traditional bean counters are over. The accountant of the future is the business consultant and strategist of the future, and we very much buy into that philosophy.”

How do you see the future of your firm from your perspective?

“We expect to continue to expand and will be adding young, dynamic accountants to our team to get us there. Being a member firm of Xeinadin also opens doors that previously did not exist.”
